The Space
The Studio
A private studio on Joo Chiat Road, built for one client at a time.
Inkwell Collective started with a simple idea: getting tattooed should feel calm, personal and unhurried. Tucked away on the fourth floor, the studio is appointment-only, so when you're in the chair, the space is yours.
We specialise in black and grey, realism, blackwork and illustrative tattoos. Every design is drawn from scratch and talked through with you before a single line goes on, so the piece you leave with is one that no one else has.

FAQ
Answers to the questions we hear most, plus a few tattoo myths that deserve to be cleared up. Still unsure about something? Just ask.
Ask us on WhatsApp →How much will my tattoo cost?
How do I book an appointment?
Fill in the enquiry form above or message us on WhatsApp with your idea, placement, rough size and any reference pictures. Your artist will reply with a quote and available dates. Your slot is confirmed once your deposit is paid, and the deposit comes off the final price.
Can I bring my own design?
Yes, please bring references, sketches and photos you like. Your artist will use them as inspiration and draw a custom design that fits your body and their style. We don't copy another artist's tattoo, so your piece will be one of a kind.
How old do I need to be?
You must be 18 or older and bring valid photo ID (NRIC, passport or driving licence) on the day. We don't tattoo anyone under 18, even with a parent's consent.
Does it hurt?
A little. Most people describe it as a scratching or stinging feeling that becomes easier to settle into after the first few minutes. Bony or thin-skinned areas such as ribs, spine, feet and hands tend to be more sensitive, while the outer arm, forearm and thigh are usually gentler. You can take breaks whenever you need.
How should I prepare for my session?
Get a good night's sleep, eat a proper meal beforehand and drink plenty of water. Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before, don't get sunburnt on the area, and wear comfortable clothes that give easy access to where you're being tattooed. Feel free to bring snacks, a drink and headphones for longer sessions.
How long does a tattoo take to heal?
The surface usually heals in about 2 to 3 weeks, and the skin underneath keeps settling for a month or two. During healing, keep it clean, apply a thin layer of aftercare balm, don't pick or scratch, and avoid swimming, long soaks and direct sun. You'll get full aftercare instructions after your session.
Do you offer touch-ups?
Yes. If your tattoo needs a touch-up from normal healing, we offer one free touch-up within 3 months, as long as the aftercare instructions were followed. Touch-ups on hands, fingers, feet and other high-wear areas may be charged.
Can I get tattooed if I'm pregnant, on medication or have a skin condition?
We don't tattoo during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you take blood thinners, have diabetes, a heart condition, eczema, psoriasis or any other health concern, check with your doctor first and let us know when you enquire, so we can plan safely. We won't tattoo over broken, irritated or sunburnt skin.
What if I need to reschedule?
Just give us at least 48 hours' notice and your deposit can be moved to a new date once. Cancelling or rescheduling with less notice, or not turning up, means the deposit is forfeited. See our Terms of Service for full details.
Myth"With a tattoo, you can never donate blood."
Fact: You can. Blood banks usually ask you to wait for a set period after getting a new tattoo, then you're free to donate again. In Singapore, check the Health Sciences Authority's latest guidelines for the current waiting period before you go.
Myth"A drink beforehand takes the edge off the pain."
Fact: Alcohol thins your blood, so you bleed more during the session. That makes it harder for the ink to settle and can affect how well your tattoo heals. A good meal, water and rest help far more, and we can't tattoo anyone who has been drinking.
Myth"Tattoos don't show up well on darker skin."
Fact: Every skin tone can carry a beautiful tattoo. A good artist adapts the design, contrast and colour choices to your skin, so the piece reads clearly and heals well.
Myth"Tattoos turn into a blurry mess as you get older."
Fact: All tattoos soften a little over the years, but solid linework, sensible sizing and good sun protection keep them looking sharp for decades. Very tiny, highly detailed designs are the most likely to blur, which is why your artist may suggest going a bit bigger.
Myth"The more ointment you put on, the better it heals."
Fact: A new tattoo needs to breathe. Thick layers trap moisture and can slow healing or cause spots. Wash gently, pat dry and apply a thin layer that soaks in, a few times a day.
Myth"Tattoos and MRI scans don't mix."
Fact: Most people with tattoos have MRI scans without any problem. Very occasionally a tattoo may feel warm or tingly during a scan, so just let the radiographer know you have one.
Myth"If I don't like it, I'll just cover it up or remove it."
Fact: Cover-ups are possible, but they usually need a bigger, darker design, which limits your options. Laser removal takes many sessions spread over months, and costs more than the original tattoo. It's worth taking your time to choose the right design and artist the first time.
Myth"Getting a tattoo is unhygienic and risky."
Fact: In a professional studio the risk is very low. We use single-use needles and ink caps, and fully clean and wrap every surface for each client. Most problems come from poor aftercare, so following your aftercare instructions matters just as much.
